...a place between everything just under twilight where bees moan dread ponds hypnotize each other katydids cause feedback and all the absent spaces have bodies after all...
THICKET, kid death’s debut EP, is made up entirely of field recordings from the woods in upstate New York where they were quarantined in 2020. Bucolic ambient environments swell into industrial dread & drone, mutating sounds we expect to hear on calming nature tapes into mesmeric soundscapes more akin to horror scores. Their process emerged partly from mystical states brought about by treatments they undergo for PTSD and the parallel sensations of terror, awe, and reverence they experienced growing up in woods that felt too-alive. kid death’s musical influences are wide-ranging, from Mark Korvan’s “nightmare machine” to Kali Malone’s liturgical, experimental organ; from harsh noise wall to Laraaji’s bodily reverberations.
Release and performance hosted by Party Office in Millbrook, NY, July 2021
